As if a good game starring mickey mouse wasn't hard enough to believe...

This week's games are 2 unexpectedly good platformers starring Mickey Mouse.

World of Illusion- Sega
As either Mickey or Donald, escape from a magic world that you've blundered into. Yeah, the plot's boring, but the gameplay is great. Anyways, the Controls:

A is Run. Better get used to holding it, there's no reason not to run. B swings a cape to stun/kill enemies. C is jump, or crawl if you're ducking. Pretty simple, really.

The game also features different levels depending on whether you play as Mickey, Donald, or 2 player Co-Op. Play as Mickey first, his levels are way easier than Donald's.

Fun: 7 out of 10. Great, varied level design, tight controls, and excellent music throughout.
Difficulty:
Mickey's Path: 2/10. You aren't likely to die outside the cloud level.
Donald's Path: 4/10. Mostly the same as Mickey's, but a few of his unique levels are a BITCH.
Co-Op: 1/10. You both have to die to get reset. Otherwise the dead player will just respawn at a checkpoint.

Mickey Mania:
Unlike World of Illusion, this game is based directly off old cartoons. Each level is a different Disney cartoon in chronological order, starting from the black-and-white Steamboat Willy. Much like W.o.I., the  music is great, and the graphics are AMAZING for the Genesis.

The controls are even simpler than W.o.I.: A or C jumps, B throws a marble(If you have any).

Fun: 7/10. Really good platformer.
Difficulty: 5/10.  Actually a bit tricky at times.

The Essentials

OK, so it seems that some of you haven't played the "must-haves" of gaming. So, here they are. Normally I prefer to post more obscure games on here, but seriously, these need posting. Download at the bottom as usual.

Sonic The Hedgehog - Genesis
It's Sonic 1, enough said. For those of you who aren't very good, you can press Up, Down, Left, Right at the title screen, then hold A(Z on your keyboard) and press start to access level select.
Things worth noting are some really nice music, especially Starlight Zone, and an alternate ending if you have all 6 chaos emeralds.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Genesis
Now with spindashing! For level select, press down at the title screen, then go into Options. Go to the sound test. Play 19, 65, 09, 17. Then press start. Finally, hold A and press start at the title screen. Good for certain people who can't beat Chemical Plant Zone.
Interesting Things:
Tails actually IS marginally better than sonic. He's shorter and has a slightly smaller hitbox while standing.
Get all 7 chaos emeralds as Sonic, Grab 50 rings, and press jump twice to activate super mode
Sky Chase Zone and Wing Fortress Zone are awesome. Go check them out.

Sonic 2 and Knuckles - Genesis
It's Sonic 2. Only you play as Knuckles. Wow.
For Level select, Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, hold A and press start at the title screen.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Genesis
Now with Saving! You can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. Sonic and tails have the same path through the game, though only Sonic can fight the secret final boss, while Knuckles takes his own route complete with new bosses.
Sonic and Knuckles can use a super mode like in Sonic 2 by getting 7 chaos emeralds. If you collect them all before beating Launch Base Zone, you get the opportunity to collect the Hyper emeralds, which unlock an even more powerful hyper form for Sonic and Knuckles, and a super form for Tails.
Level select can be accessed by grabbing the first swinging vine in Angel Island Zone, then pressing Left, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Up, Up, Up. Then press start, then A. You should be returned to the Title Screen. Scroll up to make "Sound Test" appear. It's actually level select.
To access the final battle, beat the Death Egg Zone with Sonic with all 7 Chaos Emeralds.

Super Mario World - SNES
It's-a Mario time! Pretty much the definition of platforming, Super Mario World is freaking awesome.
Things to know:
Hold run and walk into some things (blue blocks, shells, springs) to grab them. Direction and release run to throw.
You can spin jump on pretty much everything except spikes, lava, and the stationary brown muncher plants.
The Cape is broken if you know how to fly with it. Practice in the first level.
You haven't beaten everything until you beat Star Road and the SPECIAL levels beyond.

OK, enough chatter about stuff you should already know. GET THEM HERE!
